The Proposal
I made a statement on friday afternoon after a very important appointment that i had in the morning, i told alvin - Today is a very important day for me. I made it without knowing that it is indeed a day that is so important where i was blessed many a times and is also a day where i felt immensely touched and happy. Alvin proposed!
Many of my closer friends and family already knew about this but i'm going to write down how everything went by, his plans and of course the very pleasant surprise that totally caught me in awe.
Sometime back, i was pestering the boy about how and when we should celebrate our 4 years anniversary since the days are drawing near and i always have to book my leave way in advance. After some discussion, we decided 2nd of Feb will be the best to accommodate to both our schedule. I still remember him calling me twice during dinner time to confirm whether ive really taken my day off cause initially i only had plans to take my second half off. Before 2nd came, i asked alvin a couple of times where we should meet up and he said we should just have dinner at Cafe Cartel - so much so for celebrating our 4 years anniversary. I agreed though i was cheerless about this whole plan of eating at Cafe Cartel. So i started hinting and pestering him again...Which branch? Are we really going to have our anni. dinner at Cafe Cartel? He insisted and decided on the Raffles City one. I had to agree, no matter what...i do value his opinion and choices and knowing how unromantic alvin can be, i did believe him. Of course Cafe Cartel really wasnt the place where i had my dinner, we did pass by it by the way.
2nd of Feb came by pretty fast, we packed Chicken Rice from Foo house after my appointment in the morning for lunch and we shared it between Evelyn & Uncle. Everything seems fine except that i started to notice alvin's mobile...which kept ringing with many incoming messages. Hmmn. He is a busy man i know so it didnt really bother me much. After lunch, we watched Devil wears prada because we still had some time to spare before our set off time at 3.30pm. The show was so interesting yet alvin made me pause the movie to take a shower and get ready to leave the house. I was quite irritated as i was enjoying my show and i was pissed because we dont really need to leave the house so early for Cafe Cartel right? I kept asking him why we need to leave the house early and he said he booked the table at 5.30pm - like hello? the big pack of chicken rice is still pretty much undigested at 3.30pm, how am i going to swollow my ribs at 5.30pm. I obliged to start getting pretty and ready to leave the house while alvin was still busy playing with his ipod and mobile! Pissed. I kept quiet and continued to get ready. As i wore my Raoul shirt for my appointment this morning, i wanted to set it casual and wear it with a non formal skirt but alvin thought i looked weird...so i decided to change into my favorite Levi's Jeans. This is classic, i dont remember washing my jeans and yet i couldnt find it anywhere in the house. The maid claimed that she didnt wash it and gave me the ' i dont know anything, dont ask me anything' look when i questioned her about my jeans. I was frantically rummaging the room for my lost pair of jeans and i was in total disbelief - how could my jeans be missing in a house? While alvin kept persuading me not to wear my jeans and promised me that he will definitely help me search for my jeans when we get back tonight, i decided to change into something else though i totally felt really uncomfortable having lost something in a home. People thought that might gave way and i think alvin panicked a little but silly me couldnt think far enough, i was just upset over my pair of lost jeans, like totally.
Journey to town was good cause alvin gets to drive his dad's car and he decided to park the car at Raffles The Plaza's valet, i was wondering why...He rationalised the cheaper option of leaving the car with the valet and that it feels more atas since we are celebrating our anniversary. Hmmn, right, but you chose to book a table at Cafe Cartel? Nevermind about that. At 4.45pm, we walked into swissotel...really early and alvin suggested some drinks at City Space at the 70th floor of swissotel because i was telling him i hope we can have some Moet at City Space after our dinner. He suggested a second round after dinner so i said okay to the first round before dinner of course. We ended up waiting a little at IntroBar since City Space only opens at 5pm.
We had a pair of Moet & Chadon's imprelia brut (my first moet) while admiring the skyline view of Singapore in the day. City Space was really quiet and also a little warm but still cosy for a couple celebrating their 4 years together. Unknowing to me, two angels of alvin's were busily preparing and setting up a romantic ambience for that moment. It was nearly 6 after our Moet and i started to wonder what exactly happened to the 5.30 booking at Cafe Cartel. So alvin said it was time to head off, maybe for more champagne at IntroBar since you have to pay more than double the price for the skyline view for the exact same glass of Moet. I was pretty puzzled and definitely smelt something fishy and so i thought alvin is not bringing me down to cafe cartel afterall! Whee. I was so right, after a little window shopping in Raffles City, he brought me over to Chijmes. So this is the place where we are going to have our anniversay dinner but of course i didn know which restaurant. As we walked along, he pulled me in to an Italian Restaurant called Capella. Hmmmn. Pleasant pleasant and of course it wasnt Cafe Cartel. Awww, 50 brownie points already and i was giggling in my heart. I didnt question much about his choice as you can tell, i was already half overwhelmed by the changed of eating venue. The food was splendid and beautiful. We had appetisers, soup, three-steps Cab Sou & Chardonnay with his steak and my Cod. Lovely.
The weather was exceptionally breezy and nice that particular night and alvin mentioned the weather was a blessing for the both of us. I wondered what made him said that. After the dinner, we walked around chijmes, just admiring the scenary, the weather, the ambience and we walked over to Raffles Hotel. All along, i could feel his palms sweating and holding hands started to feel uncomfortable but i couldnt care less. Somebody called alvin through the phone and he said Alvin Sim is having a birthday party somewhere around this area, he asked whether he could go upstairs to greet him...of course i have to say yes to that simple request. "Alvin Sim" called and said we can go up to his booked room at Raffles the Plaza. So off we went from one raffles to another raffles that is opposite one another. Before the lobby, the boy said he has to take a card from the receptionist to get into the room. I was again puzzled and i could already sense something pending, he definitely dont need the room key to go to someone else's party. Calmly, i followed alvin to the South Tower entrance to its lifts, we got lost for a little while trying to look for 'Alvin Sim's' room. I was just following behind thinking.....
The boy finally managed to find the room and while he put in the card key, my heart was thumping a little faster not knowing what was to come but there wasnt really any expectation or sort, the feeling was just indescribable. Click, as the door opened and as alvin pulled me through i could already hear soft music playing in the background and i saw candles lighting along the walkway. I also caught a glimpse of the flower petals on the bed, at that moment my heart was thumping even faster every seconds and my heart was melting because i knew that was it....As alvin lead me further into the room, i could see the walls nicely plastered and decorated with our photos. From 4 years back till our most recent trip, it was like a gallery, a memory walk. There were champagne, both red & white wine on the tables, the room was huge and cooling, the romantic music so soothing.....the room felt like a melting pot for my heart! Most importantly, written on the bed with rose petals were the words " Will U Marry Me?" My tears was flowing, uncontrollable, i was so so so overwhelmed and lost for words. Clay Aiken's This is the Night was the song for that moment, he took the bouquet strategically placed on the bed, knelt down and proposed!!! I was giggling and tearing away non stopped! It was so sweet. He said he will love me now and forever, he promised and of course my answer was a Yes to his amazing surprise and to the one man that i love and want to spend the rest of my life with. I was touched, so touched. He bought the ring that i've always wanted - Soo Kee's Brilliant Rose, the setting was the exact same one that i wanted and the size fits perfectly!
The event didnt exactly end there, as i was admiring our very narcissistic pictures on the wall, talking about his 'fool-proofed' plan, enjoying the Chadon as a gift from one of alvin's angels - Ron, talking about how i got fooled, taking pictures of ourselves and the room, him telling me that my beloved jeans was packed away by him to the hotel room....the door bell rang. As i was still in my own world thinking who i should call or message to relate this good news, the door opened and SURPRISE.....i see friends, many many close friends swimming in. This is really something, woah, i was stunned! Silly me started to tear again, i really couldnt control, i was so appreciative and touched by all these, i was in cloud nine!
I really need to thank all the friends whom alvin personally invited and who came down to share with us the joy. I couldnt believe i was actually in a celebration, for my engagement! I had an engagement celebration in Raffles the Plaza. Whee. I could feel that you guys feel equally happy for us. Thanks for all the well wishes, i was totally bowled over by all of them!
Thanks to angels Ron & Liyong - for spending so much effort to set the place so beautiful for that moment.
Thanks to the rest of the angels who came - Wendy, Kaiming, Shan, Nuan, Albert, Za, Clara, Gerald, Elaine, Justin, Melvin, Ron, Pushpa, Annette, Sara, Sean, Alvin (yeo), Evelyn and Alvin (phua).
I promise to post up the videos and all of the pictures in Multiply by tomorrow. I know the story is a little long and the list endless, but im so thankful for everything that happened and for everyone who came. I have the best 4 years anniversary and Valentine's day present i can ever imagine. So now i'm officially engaged, i have a fiance and i have a big rock on my finger that i can wake up to admire every morning.
I'm a happy girl and everyone knows that. :)
